If you live in these areas, it&#8217;s likely your stray animal will end up with us.<\/p>\n<p>Stray animals found in Omaha, Douglas County, Ralston, and outside of our animal control service areas will be held for 3 days. Strays found in Sarpy County cities will be held for 5 days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Stray Pet Reclaim<\/strong>\u00a0opens every day at<strong> noon.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t<h2>\n\t\t\tWhat you can do if your animal is missing\n\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>File a lost pet report through Petco Love Lost<\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Fill out a detailed report, including if your pet is microchipped and\/or wearing identification tags. We also recommend utilizing neighborhood apps, like Nextdoor, when trying to reunite with a pet. Odds are, your pet is nearby where they went missing, so utilizing the community is a great way to bring them home.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LostPetsofOmahaArea\" role=\"button\" target=\"_blank\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tView Facebook Group\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>View photos of animals at NHS or reported found<\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Animals appearing in the Petco Love Lost list are either located at the Nebraska Humane Society OR have been reported found by the public and are currently being housed at the finder&#8217;s home. Be diligent and continue to utilize all the available resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t rely solely on the website for determining if your pet is at the shelter.<\/strong>\u00a0Continue to visit the Nebraska Humane Society and do a walkthrough of our kennels. These fees will vary based on the city in which you reside, how often your pet has been brought to the shelter and if they are altered. Keep in mind, our top priority is to reconnect you with your pet and we want to work with you to make that happen. Please don&#8217;t assume it has been abandoned or abused. Often, pets are missing for an extended period of time and may appear neglected or scared. Here are a few simple steps you can take to ensure that the animal is safely returned to its owner.<\/p>\n\t\t<h2>\n\t\t\tWhat you can do if you found a pet\n\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>Keep the pet safe and file a found pet report online<\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Submit a found report, including a picture, through <a href=\"https:\/\/petcolove.org\/lost\/signup\/?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=shelter&amp;redirect=found-report&amp;utm_campaign=lost-lostfound-shelter-2209\">Petco Love Lost<\/a>. Their recognition technology can automatically connect you with anyone who has submitted a lost pet with a similar photo.\u00a0Keep the animal if you can. Statistically, the owner is likely nearby. If the pet can be returned to their owner without ever having to come to the shelter, that&#8217;s the best case scenario for everyone.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/petcolove.org\/lost\/signup\/?utm_medium=referral&#038;utm_source=shelter&#038;redirect=found-report&#038;utm_campaign=lost-lostfound-shelter-2209\" role=\"button\" target=\"_blank\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSubmit a Found Pet Report\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>Check to see if the animal has ID tags or a microchip<\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Check to see if the animal has a rabies or license tag on their collar. There may be a name, number or address on it. If it&#8217;s just the tag number, NHS can trace it. If unclaimed, the animal&#8217;s temperament and health will be assessed for entry into our adoption program.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<h2>\n\t\t\tLost and Found FAQs\n\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\tWhat is Petco Love Lost?\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Petco Lost Lost (PLL) is a tool that the Nebraska Humane Society utilizes to help reconnect lost pets with their owners. PLL has photo recognizing technology that can alert owners if a matching photo is uploaded by an animal shelter or a community member. It&#8217;s a resource that is free for the public to use.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat are the fees for reclaiming a pet?\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The fees to reclaim a pet are set by the respective city. Fees are determined by the frequency of the pet coming into the shelter, if they are altered and if they are licensed. Our No. 1 priority is to reconnect loving owners with their pets, so please do not let the fees dissuade you from coming in to reclaim your lost pet.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tHow much detail should I share in my lost report?\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Share as much as you can. There are thousands of lost animals each year, so there are often similar lost pets at any given time. If your pet has any specific markings, colorings or mannerisms, mention those!<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat can I do to avoid losing my pet?\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Life happens &#8211; we get that. Gates swing open, dogs dash out of doors and cats get curious. You aren&#8217;t a bad pet owner if your pet gets lost.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What you should do, though, is be sure your pets are microchipped and licensed, and that the information attached (address and number) is up to date.
